Hawaiian Wannabe: Musings of a Mainlander

McDonald’s, Island-style

Posted by: hawaiianwannabe on: October 8, 2008

My recent blog on taro banana bread pudding was a sign of things to come, or come back to be more precise.  McDonald’s is bringing back its Taro Pie for $1.29.  Taro is a root that poi is made from and popular in Chinese as well as other Asian cuisines.  Actually, the Taro Pie is a staple in Asian McDonald’s restaurants, and was first test marketed on Maui in 2005.  Well it’s back on Oahu.

Taro is grayish-purple, but not the pretty McDonald’s Taro Pie, it’s purple-purple. Even though I’m not a fan of taro, I’m going to try it soon and update this blog.
